Pike Welcomes New Industry
The Development Authority of Pike County, the Pike County Board of Commissioners, and the City of Zebulon welcomed Pike County’s newest industry to the community on Tuesday, July 9th, 2019. Staxi, a medical wheelchair device manufacturing company, recently purchased the building previously owned by Georgia Power on Williamson Zebulon Road. The existing office space will be the company’s United States headquarters, and a 50,000 sq ft (expandable to 70,000 sq ft) warehousing and light assembly building will be constructed on the property as well. Staxi is a vertical company that is experiencing a growth trajectory of 15% increase year to year. Their original market for hospital supply continues to stay consistent, while the aviation market (25% of the business) has grown over 400% in the last 5 years. New innovations continue to create additional markets for the company in areas such as sports stadiums and arenas, shopping centers, and the Veterans Affairs health administration. This year is the company’s 20th year in business, and it is conservatively estimated that customers have pushed the patented Staxi chair over 1 billion times in hospitals, arenas, and airports all over the world.
Staxi is a targeted industry sector, with a desirable workplace environment, that positively aligns with the current goals and objectives identified for the community’s economic development needs. The company has had accelerative growth that will continue to be enhanced and increased by developing a more permanent facility, which leads to a stronger manufacturing and assembly presence in both Pike County and the State of Georgia. STAXI’s good corporate stewardship, company ethos, and family emphasis are characteristic of the values that Pike County citizens express as being important for business recruitment. The benefits of new growth to the tax base, industry diversity, and economic stability for Pike County are added values that complement the company’s current vision and mission to deliver quality, value, and innovation in both product and service.
